Driver CPC stands for Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. It is a qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers. It was introduced across Europe with the aim of improving road safety and maintaining high standards of driving.
All drivers of lorries over 3.5 tonnes or Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV) with 9 or more seats must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years.
Periodic training is delivered through training courses attended over the five year period covered by the validity of their current CPC.
Training courses are usually 7 hours long and courses must be approved by the DVSA (Formerly known as JAUPT).

1-Day Emergency First Aid
(With HSE Approved Certificate)
Incidents and accidents happen. Professional drivers are perhaps more likely than most to come across situations where knowing the fundamentals of First Aid could make a real difference. The objective of this course is to give delegates the knowledge and skills to carry out appropriate first aid until professional help arrives. The course includes: - Introduction to First Aid - Casualty Management - Respiratory Problems - Wounds and Bleeding - Burns and Scalds - Nervous System - Problems - Other Medical Conditions Dual accreditation: Delegates attending this course have the option to gain a recognized First Aid qualification, in addition to completing the hours required for one day of Driver CPC training. The Association of First Aiders certificate is valid for three years. Course objectives: By the end of this one-day course, delegates will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of Emergency First Aid. Course duration: 1 day (7 hours excluding lunch and breaks) This full-day course counts as one day's Driver CPC training.
1-Day Tachographs, Drivers Hours & Working Time Directives
This course is designed to highlight drivers' responsibilities under drivers' hours legislation and provide practical experience of working with digital equipment. Benefits of Attending: - Develop knowledge of drivers' hours, working time and tachograph rules. - Offers detailed practical instruction on how to record the rules using the digital recording equipment. - Gain a full appreciation of how drivers' hours compliance relates to the operator license obligations. - Understand the potential penalties for non-compliance. Course Content: - EU drivers' hours rules and working time regulations. - Use of the recording equipment. - Domestic regulations and record keeping requirements. - Enforcement practices and procedures. - Penalties for non-compliance in relation to both driver and vehicle operator. - Digital Tachographs - Drivers responsibilities and the penalties for non-compliance - Using Digital Tachographs - Drivers cards & Logs - Manual entries - Data display and print offs - Explain the procedures to be followed in the event of the driver making mistakes - Explain the procedures to be followed in the event of an equipment malfunction - Learning how to use the Digital Tachograph, the rules and regulations of Tachograph operation and what records drivers need to keep. 1-Day Health & Safety and Security
Health & Safety is paramount to any business. Making sure you adhere to the relevant regulations in the transport industry could be a matter of life or death. This module is an overview of rules, regulations and responsibilities of the professional driver. It's also important to know how to protect your vehicle and yourself against hazards and dangers arising during the course of your work. Learning some key pointers can decrease the chance of both you and your vehicle coming to serious harm. The course includes: - Introduction to Health & Safety - Legal responsibilities - Specific Health & Safety legislation (this includes manual handling, PPE, RIDDOR & COSHH) - Personal safety - Keeping yourself safe and fit to drive - Smuggling & personal allowances - Driver and passenger safety - Personal safety when carrying dangerous goods - Vehicle security - Keeping your vehicle and load secure - Preventing clandestine entrants Course objectives: Health & Safety (Morning) By the end of this session, drivers will be able to describe their Health & Safety responsibilities and outline the main areas of non-driving Health & Safety that they should be aware of on a day-to-day basis. Security (Afternoon) When it comes to driving, we believe it's important that everyone involved is focused on safety and has a good knowledge of how to look after their vehicles and themselves. 1-Day Health, Wellbeing & Vulnerable Road Users
This course is designed to raise awareness of all the health conditions that may affect HGV drivers in the workplace including mental & physical health conditions. The course also covers aspects of well-being such as the correct diet, hydration, cleanliness, and activities that drivers can do to exercise themselves. You will also learn to recognise the signs and symptoms of the various health conditions which may affect you as a driver, both mentally and physically. Furthermore, you will also learn how to reach out for help if you need it. The second part of this course highlights the various types of vulnerable road users you may encounter whilst on the road and the rules which regard vulnerable road users. You will also learn to manage the risks you and vulnerable road users may present to one another. This course highlights the fundamentals of securing a load to a vehicle in compliance with the various safe systems of working. You will learn how to correctly position loads on a vehicle as well as how to use the different types of securing equipment available both safely and correctly. You will also learn how to safely handle the different types of loads which they may be faced with such as pallets, cages, containers, skips etc. This course covers the safety regulations which must be adhered to when loading and unloading a load from a vehicle. These regulations include PUWER and LOLER. The course includes: - Regulations - Code of Practice - Consequences - High Loads - Ferry Operations - Principles of Load Safety - Correct Choice of Vehicle - Arrangement of Loads - Achieving Maximum Stability - Anchorage Points - Headboard & Front Bulkheads - Inspecting Load Securing Equipment - Securing Equipment - Securing Different Types of Loads - Palletised Loads - Containers - Carriage of Dangerous Goods - Curtain Sided Vehicles - Loader Cranes Course Objectives: The course will highlight the fundamentals of loading, unloading and securing a load to a vehicle in compliance with the various safe systems of working.
